Drones Dispatched from Ukraine Arrive in Krasnodar Territory in a Short Span of Three Hours; Latest Updates from Sochi
In the past few hours, the skies over the Krasnodar region in Russia have been a battleground, with several drones being shot down. This escalation comes as Ukrainian forces have been intensifying drone strikes targeting Russian military and industrial infrastructure, including critical facilities like the Afipsky oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai.
The drone strikes aim to disrupt Russia's military operations and fossil fuel infrastructure, with the ultimate goal of weakening its war capabilities.
On August 15, between 12:00 and 15:00, a total of 34 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were destroyed and intercepted over Russian territory. However, the exact number of UAVs shot down within the 3-hour window is not reported.
Recent reports indicate that Russian air defenses have been successful in countering these drone attacks. On a recent date, Russian air defenses shot down 29 UAVs over the Krasnodar region alone. On the night covering August 14–15, defenses claimed to have shot down 82 Ukrainian drones across different Russian regions, including 9 in Krasnodar. On August 13–14 overnight, 44 drones were intercepted over the Black Sea and various regions including Krasnodar.
The city of Sochi, a popular tourist destination, has been a point of concern due to the drone activity. However, the city is currently safe, and the threat of a drone attack has been lifted. Sirens are sounding in cities on the Black Sea coast of Kuban, and the internet has been reportedly cut off in some of these cities.
Air defense is currently active in these cities, and on August 15, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that 8 drones were shot down over the Krasnodar region in a span of 3 hours. Additionally, 1 drone was shot down over the Republic of Adygea, 10 drones were shot down over the Kaluga region, and 1 drone was shot down over the Ryazan region.
