Drone Show Cancelled in Astana

Astana’s planned drone light show for the Ertegi Fest celebrations has been called off due to severe weather. Strong winds and heavy snow forced authorities to cancel the event on safety grounds. Despite this, the city’s festive programme will still go ahead with over 40 Christmas tree lightings across six districts.

The cancellation came after Kazhydromet issued warnings of snow, ground blizzards, and gusts reaching 15–20 m/s. Experts advised against drone operations, citing risks to both spectators and equipment. As a result, city officials suspended all drone flights in the capital.

To keep the festive spirit alive, authorities replaced the drone display with synchronised Christmas tree lightings. These will take place in all six districts, ensuring a citywide celebration. Concerts at the main venues remain scheduled, with performances starting at 5:30 PM. This year’s *Ertegi Fest* follows a unified fairy-tale theme, tying together all holiday events. While the drone show was a key attraction, organisers confirmed that the rest of the programme—including tree-lighting ceremonies—will proceed as planned.

The decision to cancel the drone show was based on safety concerns and expert advice. Residents and visitors can still enjoy the tree-lighting events and concerts across Astana. The city’s New Year celebrations will continue under the Ertegi Fest theme, with adjusted plans to ensure public safety.
