Opel brings electric mobility to the forefront with the Grandland Plug-in Hybrid. It's not just about performance - comfort and affordability are key features too. ntv.de took it out for a spin.
For many, electric vehicles remain shrouded in mystery - how to charge and if they can reach their destinations efficiently. Plug-in hybrids could be the go-between. The new Grandland offers an electric plus gasoline motor, and Opel equips its model with an 18 kWh battery, providing up to 101 kilometers of pure electric driving (in the city).
The PHEV cruises smoothly on electric power

With the electric motor delivering 125 PS, the Grandland can move quietly around without the gasoline engine. The motor hums gently when revved up to 9,000 RPM, making little noise. Moreover, the gasoline engine enables a sporty component while satisfying eco-conscious drivers.
Of course, there's a brief hesitation when pushing the limits, but the smoother handoff between gasoline engine, electric motor, and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission soon kicks in. The front-wheel drive ensures a comfortable ride, though the gasoline engine's growl confirms the Grandland's sturdy nature. Despite its speed cap of 220 km/h, it can accelerate pleasantly.
A cozy, support-filled cabin
Opel's seating maxes out comfort. The seats, recommended by "Aktion gesunder Rücken e.V.", are ergonomically designed and generously padded. As time passes, the seats become even more inviting. For the ultimate relaxation, splurge on adjustable lumbar support, extendable thigh support, and a massage function.
The Grandland offers plenty of personal space, too. The second row guarantees enough legroom and headroom. Opel even boasts over 1600 liters of trunk space, making the Grandland a chic, yet practicalure vehicle.

Opel's style shines through in design details like the illuminated Opel Blitz under the "Vizor" and the glowing Opel logo at the rear.
Tech-filled interior and practical charging
The Grandland's cabin offers a Pixelbox - a wireless charging zone for smartphones that keeps the interior tidy while staying accessible. While its charging power might seem weak, the abundance of USB ports throughout the cabin ensures ample charging opportunities.
The Grandland's battery can charge up to 11 kWh without DC fast charging capabilities. Although some may criticize this, fast charging scenarios for plug-in hybrids are relatively rare.
Adaptive headlights are one of the Grandland's high-tech features, with 25,000 LED elements per headlight.

Priced at €40,150, the dual-motor Grandland offers a lot for the cost, given its extensive standard equipment and a combined range of over 800 kilometers.
