Drivers caught under the influence after Nickelback concert and country festival in British Columbia
In a series of events across British Columbia, various incidents and enforcement actions have been reported over the past week.

Meanwhile, the BC Highway Patrol has been active in ensuring road safety during the August long weekend. Their efforts resulted in 226 tickets and 362 roadside breath demands. On August 9, road checks were conducted following the Sunfest country music festival and the Nickelback concert in Lake Cowichan. During these checks, 277 Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) were conducted, leading to 220 roadside breath demands, resulting in 6 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRPs), 3 3-day IRPs, 2 24-hour driving prohibitions, and 172 violation tickets.
In Lake Cowichan, BC Highway Patrol also took charge of the traffic controls during Sunfest and the Nickelback concert. They implemented road closures, directed traffic flow, and increased patrols to ensure safety and minimize congestion. Insp. Adam Tallboy, Officer in Charge of Vancouver Island BC Highway Patrol, stated that Mandatory Alcohol Screening helps move check stops more quickly.
On the same day, 142 roadside breath demands were issued in Lake Cowichan, resulting in 13 90-day IRPs, 4 3-day IRPs, 1 24-hour driving prohibition, and 54 violation tickets. Thirteen of those drivers had their vehicles impounded for 90 days following roadside breath tests.
Elsewhere, a teen treatment program is facing sexual abuse allegations. No further information about the nature of the allegations has been provided.
In a different development, an Oak Bay machete attacker pleaded guilty to a 2017 crime. The details of the crime have not been disclosed.
