In Syktyvkar, Republic of Komi, a 19-year-old local resident has been charged under Articles 267.1 and 168 of the Russian Criminal Code following an incident at the intersection of Kommunisticheskaya and Pervomayskaya Streets.

On June 2025, a dangerous maneuver by a Mercedes-Benz 180 resulted in a collision with a bus stop. The driver of the vehicle, who fled the scene, was later identified as the resident in question. The suspect has admitted guilt in the incident.

The charges against the resident also involve significant damage to someone else's property. The collision caused damage to the municipal budgetary institution "Road Management," exceeding 500,000 rubles. The damage to property was caused by the resident's negligent handling of a source of increased danger.

While Article 267.1 deals with "Negligent destruction or damage of property," it is less likely to be relevant in this context. Article 168, which typically refers to "Illegal destruction or damage of property not subject to the provisions of Article 167," seems more applicable, although it may be a mix-up as Article 168 usually pertains to malicious acts.

The charges against the resident also involve offenses related to transport safety. The incident has been investigated by the UMVD of Russia in Syktyvkar, and the charges were approved by the prosecutor's office of Syktyvkar, Republic of Komi. The criminal case has been sent to the Syktyvkar City Court for trial.

Penalties for property damage in Russia can vary widely depending on intent, severity, and the specific circumstances of the case. They can range from fines to imprisonment, especially if the damage resulted from negligence involving a source of increased danger. For precise legal advice, consulting a legal expert familiar with Russian law is recommended.

The resident's offense, involving damage to a municipal budgetary institution exceeding 500,000 rubles, can be classified as a case of "Illegal destruction or damage of property not subject to the provisions of Article 167" under Russia's Criminal Code. Additionally, as the incident involved a dangerous maneuver resulting in a collision, it may also raise concerns in the realm of "crime and justice" and "general-news," especially given the ongoing investigation by the UMVD of Russia in Syktyvkar.
