Minister President Dreyer Skips Bundestag Due to Illness
In an unexpected turn of events, the Minister President of Rhineland-Palatinate, Malu Dreyer, will not be delivering her speech in the Bundestag this coming Friday. The SPD politician's spokesperson confirmed Dreyer's absence due to poor health. Originally, Dreyer had planned to address the budget discussions concerning the Federal Constitutional Court's ruling on aid for the Ahr valley flood disaster victims.
Dreyer's illness also caused her absence from the Mainz state parliament session on Thursday. Alongside Dreyer, multiple MPs also took a leave of absence due to health issues. Previously, Dreyer had been meticulous with her hygiene measures during the plenary sessions, consistently wearing a mask to protect against the prevalent coughs, colds, and hoarseness among attendees.
Additional Insights:
Malu Dreyer assumed the role as Minister President of Rhineland-Palatinate in 2011 and served in this position for about a decade. She held significant responsibility in leading the state's political landscape, focusing on initiatives like the Tufa cultural project in Trier and promoting gender equality in public office.
However, Dreyer's tenure ended in 2021 with the appointment of Michael Kretschmer as her successor. Even though she no longer holds the position of Minister President, Dreyer continues to be active in public life and was recently recognized with the Verdienstkreuz am Bande by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in 2025.
As of now, the official communication does not provide detailed information regarding Dreyer's current health condition. To stay updated on her wellbeing, it would be prudent to refer to recent news outlets or official statements from Dreyer or her representatives.
