All Aboard for Dresden's Classic Carousel of Tracks! 🚂🌳
- Dresden's train-based parking system rejuvenates for the upcoming season
Get ready to hop on board, folks! Dresden's beloved miniature trains are chugging their way back to life from April 13th, taking passengers through the gorgeous Great Garden (Großer Garten). This year marks the 75th season of the Parkeisenbahn Dresden, Dresden's very own Park Railway, and you don't want to miss it!
This season, the electric locomotives will be pulling the carriages along the 5.6-kilometer route, authorized by the Saxon State Castles, from Wednesday to Sunday until October 31st. Keep an eye out for weekends and public holidays, when a steam locomotive joins the fun, weather permitting (fingers crossed!).
To commemorate the 100th birthday of two of the steam locomotives, "Lisa" and "Moritz," on September 6th and 7th, they'll be steam-rolling through the Great Garden with a special guest from Leipzig, a third locomotive of the same vintage! 🎉🎂
The five stations have seen a splash of colors and redesigns, as they've received a fresh coat of paint and had their layouts adjusted. The railway enthusiasts under 18, numbering around 170, will be taking center stage as conductors, dispatchers, or ticket clerks, gaining firsthand experience in running a railway.
Tracing its roots back to 1950, Dresden's Park Railway is one of the oldest narrow-gauge railways in Germany and the pioneer railway in the former East Germany, built on a Soviet model.
