Dresden’s overnight snow battle keeps morning traffic flowing despite delays
Dresden’s winter road crews worked through the night to keep traffic moving as light snow fell across the city. Starting at 4 a.m., teams cleared key routes to secure the morning commute. Despite the early effort, some delays formed near the Kraftwerk Mitte power plant.
Snow began falling just after midnight, but it was light enough to avoid heavy drifting. Crews prioritised elevated roads, bus routes, and bridges to prevent hazards. A total of 46 workers in 38 vehicles were deployed to maintain smooth travel on the most important routes.
By 9 p.m. the previous evening, the winter service had already operated in two shifts. More snow is forecast by midday, and operations will continue without interruption. If conditions allow, secondary roads may be treated later in the afternoon.
Drivers have been warned about icy patches on quieter streets and at junctions. Congestion built up on Ammon and Könneritz streets, near the power plant, as traffic slowed in the affected areas.
The city’s response ensured main routes remained passable, though some delays still occurred. With further snow expected, crews will stay active to manage conditions. Drivers are urged to stay cautious, particularly on untreated roads and at crossings.
