Dresdner SC Signs Japanese Volleyball Talent Miku Akimoto

Dresdner SC, the German volleyball club that finished as runners-up in the previous season and won the German Cup, has made an exciting addition to its roster. The club has signed 18-year-old outside attacker Miku Akimoto on a one-year loan deal from Victorina Himeji, a team in Japan.

Miku Akimoto is no stranger to the international volleyball scene. She made her debut with the Japanese national team this summer at the Volleyball Nations League. Her impressive performances have earned her the title of the best scorer at the U19 World Championship in 2023.

Akimoto is versatile, having played in various positions, and is known for her competitive spirit. DSC coach Alexander Waibl described her as a "real competitor." This is the first time Waibl has worked with a Japanese player, and he is looking forward to the new addition.

The transfer of Akimoto to Dresdner SC was facilitated by the good connection between Waibl and Avital Selinger, the head coach at Victorina Himeji. Akimoto stands at a height of 1.85 meters and is considered one of the biggest talents in Japanese volleyball.

Interestingly, this is the first time a Japanese player has joined Dresdner SC. While the club has a rich history in German volleyball, there is no publicly available information regarding a history of Japanese players in the Dresdner SC Volleyball-Bundesliga team.

Akimoto's participation in the team's preparations for the new season is mentioned. She is also in the squad for the upcoming World Championship in Thailand at the end of August. With Akimoto on board, Dresdner SC is poised to make a strong impact in the upcoming season.

Miku Akimoto's mother, Ai Akimoto, was a successful volleyball player, winning Olympic bronze with Japan in London in 2012 and World Championship bronze in 2010. The signing of Miku Akimoto is happening just before the start of the season preparation for Dresdner SC, and fans are eagerly waiting to see her play for the team.

  1. The community of Dresdner SC volleyball fans is eager to understand if the club's employment policy will be amended to facilitate the continued signing of international talents like Miku Akimoto.
  2. To ensure parity in sports, it would be worth examining Dresdner SC's community policy to encourage diversity and promote opportunities for players from various cultural backgrounds, such as Miku Akimoto from Japan.
