Dresden's Winter Service Ready for Season - Dresden deploys €5.49M winter fleet to clear roads and bike paths
Dresden’s winter road service has prepared for its first operations of the season. The city has set aside €5.49 million to keep roads, bike paths and pavements clear of snow and ice. A fleet of 43 service vehicles stands ready to respond when needed.
The winter service will cover around 720 kilometres of roads—just over half of Dresden’s total network. This includes 162,000 square metres of bike paths and 234,000 square metres of sidewalks, stairways and pedestrian crossings. Roads are divided into priority categories, with federal, state and district routes, public transport lines, and the Elbe River bridges receiving top attention.
With a budget of €5.49 million and a fleet of 43 vehicles, the city aims to maintain safe travel conditions throughout winter. The service will focus on key routes first, ensuring essential connections remain passable. Residents and businesses must still play their part by keeping sidewalks and building entrances clear.
