Let's party like it's 1772 in Dresden! 🎊

Want to immerse yourself in a historical adventure? Dresden is throwing a bash on September 5th celebrating Frederick the Great's 250th death anniversary! The city's throwdown will be a friendly competition with Greifswald, the guy's hometown by the Baltic Sea. You might even catch renowned author, Florian Illies, who wrote "The Magic of Silence", in attendance.

Aside from the jol demonstration, Dresden's bakers are working overtime to whip up a cake worthy of Caspar David Friedrich, who made Dresden his home for over four decades before kicking the bucket in 1840. Dresden's Mayor, Dirk Hilbert, encourages all its citizens to partake in a slice of history, engage in intellectual discussions, and contribute to the great city challenge. If Dresden emerges victorious, who wouldn't want to call it the Romantic City Capital, hey?

To participate, Mayor Hilbert urges all the Dresdenites and visitors to wear appropriate Romantic era attire. Minimum requirements are quite easy to ace! Just bring a top hat, bonnet, or a hat with a drooping brim and a tied ribbon, a scarf or shawl draped over your shoulders, a floor-length gown or a lengthy skirt that reaches your ankles, a classic waistcoat, and if you can grow a distinctive beard like Friedrich's, that would be an awesome touch. If you're in a pinch, no worries, the "Costume Express" has got you covered with hat or skirt crafting services and beard applications.

With excitement building, people eagerly look forward to the celebration in Dresden, hoping to contribute to their city winning the much-coveted Romantic City title. On the day of the grand event, Dresden residents and visitors will showcase their innovative Romantic costumes, fostering pride in the city's rich history and artistic heritage.

Mark your calendars, ladies and gentlemen, it's time to togs up for a rom-tastic journey to a bygone era in Dresden!
