Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Thailand Until May 27

More than 60 provinces in Thailand, including the capital, Bangkok, are expected to experience increased rainfall, with isolated heavy to very heavy showers, between May 23 and 27. In response to this weather phenomenon, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has released several precautions and advisories.

The TMD warns of heavy rain, with some areas expecting very heavy downpours that could lead to flash floods and landslides, particularly in northern, northeastern, western, and eastern provinces, coastal regions such as Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat, and even Bangkok.

Residents are advised to carry umbrellas and wear raincoats when going outdoors, while motorists should exercise caution due to slippery roads and poor visibility. Travelers are suggested to avoid areas prone to flooding and heavy thunderstorms to stay safe.

Farmers are urged to improve and check drainage systems to protect their crops and livestock from water damage, especially fruits and livestock vulnerable to prolonged wet conditions.

With strengthening winds, waves in the upper Andaman Sea could reach around two meters or more. All ships are advised to proceed cautiously, avoid thundershowers, and small boats should stay ashore to prevent accidents at sea.

Local government agencies and residents are urged to stay alert to weather updates and be prepared for emergency response measures if flooding or landslides occur. Continuous monitoring via the TMD website and official channels is recommended to stay informed of any changes in the situation.

Areas most affected include northern and northeastern provinces like Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Loei, as well as western and eastern coastal provinces, Bangkok and its surroundings, and southern coastal areas facing the Andaman Sea.

Minimum temperatures during this period are expected to hover around 23-27°C, with maximums reaching 32-36°C in many regions. There is a possible development of a cyclone from a low-pressure system over the Andaman Sea, which could increase rainfall intensity and risk.

The TMD's advisories emphasize vigilance, preparation, and caution to minimize the impact of the monsoon rains on lives, property, and livelihoods throughout Thailand during this period.

The heavy rainfall forecasted across Thailand until May 27 could potentially impact businesses, such as travel and tourism, especially in areas prone to flooding and heavy thunderstorms. Despite the unfavorable weather conditions, it's crucial for farmers to maintain and check drainage systems to ensure the health of their crops and livestock.
