DreamWorks' Forgotten Island Brings Philippine Folklore to Life in New Fantasy Adventure

DreamWorks Animation has unveiled its latest film, Forgotten Island, a fantasy adventure rooted in Philippine culture. The project comes from the same team behind Puss in Boots and features a star-studded voice cast. A first trailer arrived on 26 March 2026, with the full release set for September. The story centres on two best friends embarking on a daring journey through a mythical world. Liza Soberano leads the cast as Raissa, while H.E.R.—who has Filipino heritage through her mother—voices Jo, the other main character. Both actors bring personal ties to the film's cultural backdrop.

The setting blends iconic Philippine elements, from colourful jeepneys to creatures drawn from Filipino folklore. Supporting roles include Dolly de Leon, Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, and Lea Salonga. H.E.R. has spoken about her deep connection to the story, adding another layer of authenticity to the project.

Production has emphasised rich visuals and a narrative that celebrates Filipino traditions. With its September release date, Forgotten Island aims to bring a fresh, culturally vibrant adventure to global audiences. The film's trailer has already showcased its vibrant world and dynamic characters. Forgotten Island marks a rare mainstream animation deeply inspired by Philippine culture. Moviegoers can expect a mix of humour, heart, and folklore when it arrives in cinemas this autumn.
