Dream Theater's "Parasomnia: The Graphic Album" Explores the Dreaming World

Dream Theater, a renowned progressive metal band, has ventured into a new creative realm with the release of "Parasomnia: The Graphic Album". This 2025 companion graphic novel, created in collaboration with Z2 Comics, offers a unique take on the themes of the band's album Parasomnia.

The graphic album consists of eight illustrated stories, each inspired by a song from the album. These stories delve into various disruptive sleep disorders and the thin line between dreams and reality, deepening the themes of the music by presenting alternative interpretations of each song's narrative.

The project has been praised by Dream Theater's guitarist, John Petrucci, for its creative storytelling and impressive diversity of artistic styles. He finds the collaboration with the Z2 team inspirational and a unique expansion of the band's vision.

The graphic novel is a 144-page masterpiece, featuring the artistic work of multiple Nebula, Locus, Inkpot, and Eisner award-winning writers and artists. Notable authors like Kevin J. Anderson, known for science fiction and comic work, have contributed to the project, broadening its appeal to fans of mind-bending fantasy and sci-fi narratives.

The cover art for the graphic novel is by Eisner-winning cover artist, Tony Harris, who has created artwork for each song and begins each chapter of the graphic novel. The deluxe edition of the graphic album pairs a sea-blue double vinyl LP of the Parasomnia album with the graphic novel.

In addition to the standard edition, a Platinum Edition is available as a deluxe bundle with Z2's Exclusive Variant of "Parasomnia" double LP in Translucent Sea Blue vinyl. The bundle also includes a set of collectable enamel pins featuring Tony Harris' artwork and a set of eight pin badges.

The Tour Edition of the graphic album will be available for purchase during Dream Theater's US tour in September and October. This exclusive edition can only be purchased during the tour.

For those who prefer the graphic novel on its own, it is also available separately. Whether you're a fan of Dream Theater, comic art, or mind-bending narratives, "Parasomnia: The Graphic Album" offers an immersive storytelling experience that is not to be missed.
