Future Alpine's Ambition: Emission-Free Dream Garage
Alpine, once struggling in Formula 1 this 2022 with a dismal sixth place, has a grand vision - seven new, emission-free cars rolling out by 2030. This commitment was announced by Renault's CEO, Luca de Meo. But Alpine isn't limited to battery-electric vehicles. As Vice President of Alpine Engineering, Robert Bonetto clarified, "Emission-free doesn't necessarily mean battery-electric."
The Racing Prototype Alpenglow, powered by hydrogen combustion engin, demonstrated this different approach. Sporty electric vehicles are on top of Albine's agenda, but the most anticipated is the long-awaited electric A110, set to rival Porsche's E-Boxter.
Alpine's New Era: Electric and Authentic
The traditional charm of authenticity is vital throughout the electric Alpine era. Alpine's product manager, Charlie Biardeau, rejected simulated engine noises and artificial gearshifts found in other models like the Hyundai Ioniq. Instead, the electric motors' sound was modified to its maximum, retaining its natural tone.
The upcoming Alpine A110 is expected to deliver a unique driving experience, with the focus on allowing the driver to merge with the car. "We're not faking anything," Biardeau emphasized.
Revtionalizing Alpine Architecture
Alpine's new architecture, designed for the E-Alpine A110, is highly flexible and allows for different vehicle types, making synergies and reducing costs. This new, adaptable platform will enable diverse models to be produced while maintaining Alpine's dynamic essence.
The Alpine A290, a sporty sibling of Renault's 5 E-Tech, will share a platform with its Renault counterpart, albeit with modifications to reflect its performance-oriented nature. The study preview indicates potential changes, including a modified front-end and upgraded suspension.
Synergies and Scalability
Some of the models in the seven-vehicle lineup selected for Alpine are set to share platforms with existing Renault models, like the CMF-B EV platform used by the Renault 5 E-Tech. This approach will lead to synergies and help optimize costs.
The New Alpine A290: Power, Agility, and Handling
The Alpine A290, introduced in 2023, will feature an agile, shorter wheelbase than its predecessor, ensuring superior handling and maneuverability. The A290 is anticipated to produce around 165 kW (224 hp), outpacing the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric with which it will share batteries.
Alpine's Plans for a BEV-C Crossover GT
By 2025, Alpine will introduce a BEV-C crossover GT, which will roll off the lines in its hometown, Dieppe. The Alpine will rely on NMC batteries, boasting a maximum capacity of 89 kWh, enabling efficient energy storage and quick charging from 10-80% in approximately 20 minutes.
Alpine is committed to continuing to use NMC batteries in their futuristic vehicles, believing that the advanced technology will help meet their dynamic performance goals.
