Draymond Green of the Warriors assigns comedic aliases for teammate Buddy Hield, but Hield is not amused with the selected names.
Rebooting the Banter: Warriors' Batman Brawl Erupts Over Game 1 Victory
The Golden State Warriors seize a 99-88 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in the opening game of their second-round playoff series, but the fun truly unfolded postgame. With Stephen Curry sidelined in just 13 minutes due to a hamstring injury, Draymond Green delivered a memorable performance and a chuckle-worthy Batman reference.
Joking with The Athletic's Anthony Slater, Green analogized his teammates to DC Comics characters, reflecting upon how they stepped up in Curry's absence. Green amusingly referred to his teammates and their new roles on the court, "I told him to pass it, and he's kinda walking towards the locker room." Green likened the situation to Batman and Robin, with Robin stepping up as Batman in Curry's absence.
Slater suggested Alfred for the Batman role, to which Green agreed, "Alfred turned into Robin." Adding, "They filled in and it was beautiful to see."
Superheroes on the Court: Green, Hield, and Butler Dueling over Batman Titles
Green wrapped up the night with 18 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and two steals. His leadership played a significant part in maintaining the team's composure following Curry's early exit.
Buddy Hield, however, took Green's analogy to another level. Hield, with a game-high 24 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and a steal, claimed the Batman title for himself, "I'm Batman today. I saved the day."
Jimmy Butler III also delivered a strong performance, with 20 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, and two steals. Like Green, Butler referred to the Batman characters when discussing the team's dynamic, but he kept in tune with Green's analogy, "I'm Robin, yes. And Steph is still Batman."
The playful exchange continued as Butler playfully scolded Hield for wearing a pair of the wrong shorts during the game. To which, Hield blamed Butler for the wardrobe mix-up.
