Hitting the Links with Canada's Golfing Greats at the 2025 RBC Canadian Open

It's always a (lively) week prior to the RBC Canadian Open for Canada's top male golfers, jam-packed with media events, sponsor gigs, and more. However, this Tuesday was a bit different. With the tournament's tee times announced, Nick Taylor, Taylor Pendrith, and Mackenzie Hughes got some exciting news—they'd be teeing off together for the event's opening two rounds!

"We were all pumped," Pendrith exclaimed. "I can't remember if I've ever played with Mackenzie on the PGA Tour, but that'll be a blast! And Nick, well, he's practically a Canadian Open legend—so this is gonna be sick!"

The powerhouse trio includes three of the top-ranked Canadian golfers on the tour. Taylor, from Abbotsford, B.C., is 16th. Pendrith, from Richmond Hill, Ont., is 29th, and Hughes, from Dundas, Ont., is 46th. But let's not forget that Taylor is the face of the Canadian Open—his silhouette is in the tournament's logo!

"This pairing feels like home turf," Taylor shared. "I know these guys pretty well, so it should be a comfortable round or two." They expect some of the largest galleries on Thursday and Friday, with Canadians cheering them on, but also eagerly anticipating the big-name grouping of Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, Sweden's Ludvig Aberg, and Luke Clanton of the United States right behind them.

Corey Conners, the top-ranked Canadian in the world (sitting ninth in the FedEx Cup standings), admitted that his feelings weren't much hurt by not being in the all-Canadian trio. He'll play with 2024 Canadian Open champion Robert MacIntyre of Scotland and Ireland's Shane Lowry instead.

"I spend enough time playing with those guys," joked Conners. "I know those three Canadian lads will have a blast together. And hey, I'll still have plenty of fan support—Canadians are the best!"

Pendrith, Conners's old college buddy and Presidents Cup teammate, can't wait to see Corey dominate. "Corey's got a great group. He'll be fine," he said with a chuckle. "I was hoping to play with one of my fellow Canadians this week, but c'est la vie."

A total of 24 Canadians will be teeing off at TPC Toronto in Osprey Valley, a sprawling course in Alton, Canada. Other contenders include Hall of Famer Mike Weir, Adam Hadwin, Adam Svensson, Ben Silverman, Sudarshan Yellamaraju, A.J. Ewart, David Hearn, Matthew Anderson, Myles Creighton, Richard T. Lee, Brett Webster, Mark Hoffman, Matthew Scobie, Calgary's Wes Heffernan, Cougar Collins, and Calgary's Hunter Thomson.

Amateur golfers Ashton McCulloch, Justin Matthews, and Toronto's Matthew Javier are also in the mix. This promises to be an unforgettable week for Canadian golf fans!

(Report from The Canadian Press, first published on June 4, 2025. Due to the lack of specific information about the groupings of Canadian golfers, it is uncertain if an all-Canadian group will indeed be playing together.)

  1. The media will likely focus on the all-Canadian trio of Nick Taylor, Taylor Pendrith, and Mackenzie Hughes during the opening two rounds of the 2025 RBC Canadian Open, as they prepare to tee off together.
  2. Toronto's vibrant golfing community will be enthusiastically supporting their local heroes, including Mackenzie Hughes, as he competes in the 2025 RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto in Osprey Valley, Canada.
  3. In addition to the high-profile group of Nick Taylor, Taylor Pendrith, and Mackenzie Hughes, other Canadian golfers such as Corey Conners, Mike Weir, and Amateur golfer Ashton McCulloch will also be vying for glory at the 2025 RBC Canadian Open.
