Wout van Aert Wins Dramatic 2025 Tour de France Final Stage

In a thrilling conclusion to the 2025 Tour de France, Belgian cyclist Wout van Aert claimed a stunning victory on the final stage. The race, which started from Mantes-la-Ville and ended at the iconic Champs-Elysees in Paris, was affected by rain and wet conditions.

On the final ascent of the Côte de la Butte Montmartre, van Aert launched a decisive counter-attack, dropping the yellow jersey holder Tadej Pogačar and soloing to victory with a 19-second lead. This was a significant moment as it marked the first time in roughly two years that Pogačar had been dropped on a climb in the Tour.

The final kilometers were emotionally intense for van Aert, who was unsure of his lead due to noisy radio communications and crowd excitement. It wasn't until the very end on the Champs-Élysées that he realised he was winning. Van Aert credited his teammates' support for keeping him upright and enabling the attack that secured victory.

Tadej Pogačar, who was expected to win the Tour for the fourth time with a lead of four minutes and 24 seconds over Jonas Vingegaard, was dropped during the final ascent of the Côte de la Butte Montmartre and finished in fourth place. Vingegaard and Oscar Onley finished around seven and a half minutes behind van Aert, but their positions in the general classification remained unchanged.

The maillot jaune (yellow jersey) team, UAE Team Emirates-XRG, had a special jersey for the stage to celebrate Pogačar's lead. The maillot vert (green jersey) and maillot blanc (white jersey) also secured their positions in the final stage, with Jonathan Milan and Florian Lipowitz maintaining their positions in the points classification and young rider classification respectively.

The 2025 Tour de France Femmes, which took place on the same day, saw Mavi García take the biggest victory of her career. The race included undulating terrain, four laps of the Champs-Elysees, and three additional laps featuring a detour to the Côte de la Butte Montmartre.

As the 2025 Tour de France comes to a close, we look forward to covering the 2025 Tour de France Femmes live next week. The final podium of the men's race featured Wout van Aert, Tadej Pogačar, and Jonas Vingegaard.
