Thrilling "Tatort: The Great Fear" Unfolds in the Heart of the Black Forest! 🔥

Thrilling Transition on Aerial Tramway - Dramatic development occurs in cable car incident

Get ready for a gripping ride! "Tatort: The Great Fear" (March 23, 8:15 PM on ARD), set in the enchanting Black Forest, begins with a chilling mystery - a man's death inside a packed cable car. The crime scene? The Schauinslandbahn, zooming passengers up to the 1,284-meter-high Freiburg mountain and back.

Cable Car Stops Dead for a Day 🚧

For a truly authentic shoot, they filmed on location. The first scene of the thrilling episode was recorded on day one, causing quite a stir. To get the perfect shots, the cable car, filled with actors, was continuously sent up and down - quite the nerve-wracking experience, as shown in a video from the set.

The Schauinslandbahn isn't just any cable car; it's the first passenger cable car to operate on a continuous loop, which has been in operation since 1930. With a length of around 3,600 meters, it's Germany's longest cable car of its kind. A ride usually takes 15 to 20 minutes - unless you're shooting for "Tatort."

In "The Great Fear," the cable car plays a crucial role right from the start. During a fully packed ride in the heat of summer, a man mysteriously dies. As the passengers rush out of the gondola upon reaching the valley station, a couple cleverly takes advantage of the confusion to flee into the Black Forest. Inspectors Friedemann Berg (Hans-Jochen Wagner, 56) and Franziska Tobler (Eva Loebau, 52) are on the case and will stop at nothing to find the pregnant woman and her husband.

Not the First Cable Car "Tatort" 🔄

"The Great Fear" isn't the first "Tatort" to feature a cable car in a central storyline. In 2012, the Swiss "Tatort" used a cable car as the setting for a murder in "Hanglage mit Aussicht." In this thrilling episode, Swiss inspectors Reto Flückiger (Stefan Gubser, 67) and Liz Ritschard (Delia Mayer, 58) investigated the murder of a wealthy investor whose lifeless body was found in the mountains, apparently pushed out of a cable car.

This powerful scene was shot on the Luftseilbahn Vitznau-Wissifluh, which lifts guests to a mountain restaurant on the Alp Wissifluh. This cable car is noteworthy: It's the first installation in Switzerland to combine pendulum and continuous cable cars and has been in operation since 1908.

The "Tatort: Hanglage mit Aussicht" not only kept viewers on the edge of their seats but also triggered a tourist boom to the cable car. As the Swiss tabloid "20 Minuten" reported, the owner of the hotel at the destination of the red gondolas received numerous emails and booking requests after the broadcast. After its prominent appearance in "The Great Fear," the Schauinslandbahn is likely to draw in plenty of attention as well.
