Dramatic Arts Organization Faces Bank Fraud Scandal in Alberta

In a late Friday announcement, the Calgary-based Alberta Theatre Projects (ATP) revealed that their financial accounts were hacked over a four-day period, resulting in a substantial monetary loss.

The hack, which occurred between April 24 and April 28, involved a third-party infiltrating ATP's accounts. Upon discovering the breach on April 28, the theatre promptly secured its accounts to prevent any further unauthorized access.

Although no customer, donor, or subscriber information was compromised, "significant funds" were stolen during the incident. ATP is currently collaborating with their financial partner and law enforcement to ascertain the exact amount lost and to thoroughly investigate the matter.

While this financial setback is a tough pill to swallow, particularly as ATP celebrates its 50th anniversary and a record-breaking season, the theatre expressed gratitude for the support of its passionate network of patrons and partners.

ATP's current production, "Liars at a Funeral," is moving forward as planned and shall run through May 11. Once more details emerge from the investigation, ATP has pledged to share information with the community.

With tension high and recovery strategies likely in the works, the theatre's executive director, Peita Luti, emphasized the priority placed on the security and privacy of ATP's patrons, staff, and partners. Luti lamented the frustration of the breach, especially given the efforts made to protect the integrity and security of their systems.
