Get Ready to Rock, Roll, and Roar in the Heart of German Arts: Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus' Extravaganza in 2023/24!

Welcome, theatre enthusiasts! The Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus is no longer just a haven for the refined bourgeoisie. Under the leadership of General Intendant Wilfried Schulz, the theatre aims to celebrate Sustainability, Inclusion, and Diversity. Instead of shutting its doors, it plans to open wider than ever, welcoming everyone to the thrilling season 2023/24.

The season kicks off on September 2nd with a timeless masterpiece—Shakespeare's "Richard III"—followed by a football EURO celebration in the summer of 2024. The renowned wisdom of the Bard will come alive on the stage, as plays like "Macbeth" and "The Visit of the Old Lady" retell stories of power, madness, and vengeance, fitting all too well into our world today. Richard III himself, with his infamous lines, "I am so ugly, I am hate itself," will be portrayed by a beloved audience favorite, who reserves his loyalty for the Düsseldorf theatre, despite his TV career as a queer police commissioner.

Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus sets its sights high, aiming to offer 27 stunning new productions in total. The second premiere, "The Visit of the Old Lady," promises to captivate and thrill, while Ibsen's "Peer Gynt," Büchner's "Woyzeck," Kleist's "Amphitryon," Miller's "Death of a Salesman," and an "Oresteia" freely inspired by Aeschylus are just a few of the other theatre classics gracing the stages. The Small House stage will bring Luis Buñuel's iconic film satire, "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie," to life.

Looking for a family-friendly fairy tale experience? The Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus has you covered. During Christmas, families can indulge in "The Devil with the Three Golden Hairs," directed by André Kaczmarczyk, and watch talented young actors strut their stuff in the vaudeville "Folies! Folies! Folies!"

Just when you think the entertainment can't get any more amazing, prepare for a wild ride! Cult director Bonn Park is drawing attention with the religious critique "No Worries," while Suzie Miller's "Prima Facie" explores modern realities. Toshiki Okada presents a fresh take on the work-from-home phenomenon in his piece, and Andreas Kriegenburg directs the dramatic women's tale, "the unmarried."

The Young Acting department has plenty in store for you as well, with hip-hop spectacles, a youth version of Schiller's action drama, and a performance by the Stadt:Kollektiv, focusing on Turkish family dramas, Büchner's "Leonce and Lena," and a confrontational production with the ominous title "Wrath."

Finally, get ready to cheer for football and unite in harmony! In June/July 2024, young and old can join the multinational spectacle "Faith, Love, Football," celebrating the EURO tournament. For more information, visit www.dhaus.de

So, buckle up and get ready for a mind-blowing, laughter-filled, and thought-provoking season at Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus! Whether you're a theatre aficionado or a newcomer to the world of arts, our stages are ready to welcome you with open arms. See you there!

Amidst the grand extravaganza at Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus, sports enthusiasts can revel in the football EURO celebration scheduled for summer 2024, seamlessly blending the worlds of lifestyle and sports. The season's offerings also include stage adaptations of classic sports-themed plays, such as "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie," drawing inspiration from Luis Buñuel's film.
