Draft Voter List Review Unopposed During Initial Day in Bihar: Election Commission
Election Commission of India Publishes Draft Electoral Rolls for Bihar
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has published the draft electoral rolls for Bihar on August 1, 2025, following the completion of the Enumeration Phase under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2025.
The draft electoral rolls cover all 243 Assembly Constituencies and 90,712 polling booths in Bihar. To ensure transparency, the ECI has shared a detailed list of electors whose names appeared in the previous (June 24) rolls but were missing in the new draft with political parties for cross-verification.
Electors can verify their names through the official link using their EPIC numbers. In addition, the ECI urges all voters to submit new photographs to their Booth Level Officers (BLOs) by September 1, 2025.
The ECI has also announced that it will double the remuneration for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and enhance remuneration for BLO Supervisors.
Political parties have one month, until September 1, to submit claims and objections regarding the addition or deletion of names from the draft electoral rolls. Electors can also file claims and objections for inclusion or deletion of names through the same portal.
The active involvement of 1.60 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from 12 political parties during the enumeration phase and the prior sharing of data likely minimized immediate objections. The ECI has also ensured that no name can be deleted from the draft list without a proper speaking order after enquiry and providing a fair opportunity to affected parties.
The ECI will provide honorarium to Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs). This move is aimed at ensuring a smooth and efficient drafting process for the electoral rolls.
The ECI's proactive measures and transparency seem to have paid off, as no claims or objections were filed by any political party in the first 24 hours of the publication of the draft electoral rolls in Bihar. This suggests a smooth drafting process with political parties already engaged beforehand and confidence in the procedural fairness assured by the Election Commission.
