Dr. Stephan Keller has assumed the position of mayor in Düsseldorf.
Düsseldorf's Mayoral Election Results: Keller Secures Victory
In a closely contested race, Thomas Keller has emerged victorious in the Düsseldorf mayoral election, according to the recently announced results. Keller, representing the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), secured a lead with over 54% of the vote in 380 out of 454 voting districts.
Keller's win comes with a significant margin of 25,309 votes, as he received a total of 118,308 votes. His main rival, incumbent mayor Geisel, who served the city for six years, garnered 92,999 votes, equating to 44.01% of the total votes cast.
The voter turnout for the election was 45.27%, lower than the 52.57% recorded in the municipal election held on September 13. Despite the lower participation, the election was marked by a keen interest and a competitive race between the two candidates.
Upon hearing the news of his victory, Keller expressed his excitement, thanking the voters for their support and pledging to work closely with the employees of the city administration on the topics discussed during the campaign. He also took the time to thank his predecessor, Geisel, for his sincere congratulations and for his work as mayor.
Geisel, on the other hand, initially conceded defeat to Keller, expressing disappointment about the election outcome. However, he later personally congratulated Keller on his victory, considering his time as mayor to be great years for Düsseldorf.
As the new mayor, Keller is expected to lead the city into a new era, focusing on the issues that were at the forefront of the campaign and working towards a brighter future for Düsseldorf.
