In a sympathetic move, Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich echoes the plight of Borussia Dortmund after their crushing loss to RB Leipzig. "Ain't no denying, it's rough for 'em, mate. Last season we found ourselves in a similar fix, chasing our dreams," Kimmich shared in a ZDF sports studio. Post the 0:2 defeat, Dortmund now languish in an 11th place finish in the Bundesliga, trailing league leaders FC Bayern by a daunting 27 points.
"Come our match against Dortmund on April 12 at the Allianz Arena, well, never a pleasant sight, 'cause they've got a stack of talent and depth in that squad," Kimmich acknowledges, adding, "Hope they catch a break and rally in the Bundesliga. Naturally, not against us, but they can secure victories elsewhere."
Kimmich recognizes the DFB connection
Keeping tabs on his Dortmund national teammates remains a priority, the DFB captain clarified. "Keeping our national players fit, sharp, and delivering top-notch performances is crucial for all of us in Germany. Sharing experiences is something I can do, especially after last year when Bayern's league aspirations fell short," Kimmich explained.
In 2020, Munich could only manage a third-place finish in the Bundesliga, losing out to champions Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart - a series of events that led to the departure of then-coach Thomas Tuchel.
