Borussia Dortmund has secured the signing of 17-year-old Brazilian defender Kaua Prates for around €12 million. The youngster will move from Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte this summer, joining the German club ahead of the 2026 season. Sporting director Lars Ricken has already hailed him as one of South America's brightest talents.

Prates began his career at Cruzeiro's youth academy in 2019. He made his first-team debut at just 16 and has since played 14 competitive matches for the club. His performances caught the eye after he helped Brazil win the South American U17 Championship in April 2025, earning five international caps at that level.

Technical director Sebastian Kehl highlighted Prates' ability to play in multiple defensive positions. The teenager's versatility and potential have convinced Dortmund to offer him a long-term deal, with his contract running until 2031.

The transfer marks a significant step in Prates' career, taking him from Brazilian football to one of Europe's top leagues. His arrival strengthens Dortmund's defensive options for the future, with the club investing in his development over the next decade.
