Municipal Elections in Dortmund Conclude, New District Councils Determined
The municipal elections in Dortmund, held on September 14, 2025, have concluded, marking a significant shift in the city's political landscape. The new district councils for various areas of the city have been determined, with the SPD, CDU, Greens, AfD, and The Left securing their positions.
In the district of Aplerbeck, the SPD remains the strongest party with 27.5% of the vote and six seats. The CDU follows closely with 26.4% and five seats, while the Greens dropped to third with 17.1% and four seats. The AfD entered for the first time with 14.6% and two seats, and The Left kept their mandate with 5.4%. Jan Gravert from the SPD claims to continue as the district mayor of Aplerbeck.

The runoff election for the mayor's office in Dortmund will take place on September 28, with incumbent Thomas Westphal (SPD) and Alexander Omar Kalouti (CDU) as candidates. Thomas Westphal remains ahead, while Alexander Kalouti comes in second.
