Donald Trump's Claim on India-Pakistan Ceasefire

US President Donald Trump has boasted that he stopped India and Pakistan from engaging in a full-blown war in 2025, asserting that he nixed US trade deals with both nations if they continued the conflict. He claimed that this pressure compelled them to pull the brakes on their hostilities, averting a potential nuclear disaster.

During a press conference in the Oval Office with billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who was about to leave the Trump administration, Trump congratulated the "great leaders" of India and Pakistan for understanding and agreeing to his appeal.

The conflict between India and Pakistan had been brewing for two weeks following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu, and Kashmir, where 26 civilians lost their lives. India launched Operation Sindoor in response, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

However, hostilities came to a halt on May 10, 2025, after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes. The Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both countries reached an understanding to end the conflict without the intervention of any third party, Indian government sources confirmed.

Trump's claims of mediating the ceasefire were met with skepticism by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who emphasized that India would "never accept" external mediation. It was instead Pakistan that requested direct talks between the two militaries, according to Modi.

However, this intervention by Trump is seen as a significant achievement by the US political sphere. Representative Warren Davidson introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives commending Trump for his diplomatic efforts. Pakistan even proposed Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize to acknowledge his diplomatic role in de-escalating the tensions.

In brief:- Trump claimed he leveraged economic pressure on India and Pakistan to prevent a nuclear conflict[1][3].- India denied US mediation, attributing the ceasefire to direct military talks without third-party intervention[1].- The event helped restore stability in South Asia, crucial for global security and US interests[2].- Trump received positive political response, including a resolution praising his mediation efforts and a Nobel Peace Prize nomination from Pakistan[2].

Thus, while Trump's claims of mediation were questioned, the cessation of hostilities had far-reaching implications for regional stability and diplomacy. The incident also boosted Trump's political clout domestically and internationally.
