SANTO DOMINGO — The Dominican Republic has expressed a desire to further strengthen its relations with Vietnam, a country that is increasingly playing a significant role in the Asia-Pacific region. In a meeting with Vietnam's newly appointed Ambassador Le Quang Long, President Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona emphasized the importance of cooperation in telecommunications, agriculture, and high technology.
During the meeting, held on May 29 in Santo Domingo, President Abinader proposed enhancing bilateral ties in areas of mutual interest, with a particular focus on these three sectors. Ambassador Long, in turn, conveyed the greetings and well wishes of Vietnamese leaders to President Abinader. He emphasized his commitment to fostering bilateral relations and serving as a conduit to implement agreements reached during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to the Dominican Republic in November. This visit is considered a crucial step in solidifying traditional friendship and boosting economic, trade, and investment cooperation.
Furthermore, Ambassador Long called on the Dominican Republic government to create an enabling environment for Vietnamese businesses, particularly in the telecommunications sector, where Vietnam excels and the Dominican Republic needs improvement.
During his visit, Ambassador Long also met with Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Francisco Caraballo and General Secretary of the United Left Movement Party Miguel Mejia. Both sides reiterated the importance of implementing high-level agreements effectively and agreed to boost delegation exchanges, enhance bilateral cooperation, and maintain mutual support in international forums.
