Domestic Incident Involving Sha'Carri Richardson Discussed, Apology Extended to Christian Coleman
Sha'Carri Richardson's Domestic Violence Arrest at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport
Sha'Carri Richardson, the reigning 100-meter world champion, was arrested on July 27, 2025, at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on a fourth-degree domestic violence offense. The incident involved Richardson's boyfriend, fellow sprinter Christian Coleman.
According to a police report, a disturbance between the two was reported to an officer at the airport. The report further states that Richardson shoved Coleman into a wall and reached out with her left arm to grab his backpack, yanking it away. An item, possibly headphones, was also thrown by Richardson at Coleman.
However, Coleman declined to press charges, stating that the incident was verbal only and he did not want to be labeled a victim.
Following the arrest, Richardson publicly apologized to Coleman, acknowledging her actions and explaining that past trauma influenced her behavior. Coleman also expressed his belief that Richardson should not have been arrested.
The police report later indicated that the case had been cleared, presumably because Coleman chose not to press charges and cooperate as a victim.
In a video on Instagram, Richardson addressed the incident, stating that she is practicing self-reflection and that she refuses to run away but face everything that comes to her head on.
Despite the incident, Richardson continued her successful athletic career. In 2023, she won the 100 meters at the world championships in Budapest and helped the 4x100 relay team win an Olympic gold.
The incident has sparked broader discussions about intimate partner violence against Black men, highlighting the need for greater awareness and support for victims.
