The Miami Dolphins, once a formidable force on the football field, have been struggling to find success in the 2025 season. The team, currently holding a 0-3 record, is in a must-win situation entering Week 4.

The offense, which was once offensive-minded under head coach Mike McDaniel, has been faltering. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has a 5:4 touchdown-interception ratio through three games, and the team is averaging 18.7 points per game, the eighth-fewest in the league.

One of the key absentees from the Dolphins' offense has been 2024 Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith, who was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers. In his absence, Julian Hill has been starting at tight end, with only one catch on the year.

However, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon. Darren Waller, a professional NFL tight end who came out of retirement in 2024 to join the Miami Dolphins, is expected to return for Week 4. Waller has not played a game since January 2024 but made a surprise offseason trade with the New York Giants to join the Dolphins.

Mike McDaniel expects Waller to return, and his addition could be a massive boost for the struggling offense. Waller's return could help alleviate pressure off of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, the team's star wide receivers.

Darren Waller will officially come out of retirement once he takes the field for the Miami Dolphins, marking his debut around Week 4 after recovering from a hip strain. The Dolphins started the 2025 season with a 0-3 record, the worst start of the Mike McDaniel era, but with Waller's return, they may find the spark they need to turn their season around.
