Dolphins Anticipate Week 4 Return of Tight End Darren Waller
In a surprising turn of events, veteran tight end Darren Waller is set to make his debut for the Miami Dolphins in Week 4, as they face off against the New York Jets. Waller, who retired from the NFL in June 2024 due to health concerns and a loss of passion for football, returned from retirement in July 2023 with a trade to the Dolphins.
The 33-year-old tight end, who has spent time with the Baltimore Ravens (2015-16), Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders (2018-22), and New York Giants (2023), is expected to bring a significant impact to Miami's offense. This expectation arises following the trade of Jonnu Smith.
Waller's career has been marked by consistent success, particularly with the Raiders where he had two consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in 2019-20, culminating in a career-high 1,196 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 2020, a performance that earned him a Pro Bowl appearance.
However, his tenure with the Dolphins has not started smoothly. Waller missed the first three games of the season due to a hip strain, and he came close to playing in the Dolphins' game against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night but ultimately did not suit up.
The Dolphins, who currently have a record of 0-3 in the current season, are in dire need of a boost. Julian Hill and Tanner Conner, the current Dolphins tight ends, have combined for four receptions for 37 yards but no touchdowns so far this season.
The game between the Dolphins and the Jets will be played at the visiting team's stadium, the home of the New York Jets. This matchup promises to be an exciting one, with both teams eager to secure their first win of the season. Let's see if Waller can make a difference in his Miami Dolphins debut.
