Dollander Strives for Major League Pitching Form Resurgence
Colorado Rockies Prospect Chase Dollander Recalled to Major League Roster
After a challenging Major League debut, Colorado Rockies No. 1 prospect Chase Dollander is making his way back to the big leagues. Dollander, a right-handed starting pitcher, will take on the St. Louis Cardinals on August 11, 2025.
Dollander, who was drafted ninth overall in 2023, made his MLB debut in April 2025 but struggled, posting a 6.68 ERA over 15 starts and a 2-9 record. His time in the majors was marked by control issues, with 33 walks, and an injury-plagued season that saw him optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque in early July.
However, Dollander's time in the minors seems to have been productive. He reported improvements made during his work in the pitching lab in Arizona. Before his call-up, Dollander was dominant in the minors, boasting a 2.59 ERA and a high strikeout rate (12.9 K/9) through 118 innings in 2024.
The Rockies' season may be lost, but the team sees this as an opportunity for Dollander to refine his skills against MLB hitters, especially at challenging environments like Coors Field. Colorado Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer has stated that Dollander must become a more efficient pitcher.
Meanwhile, the Albuquerque Isotopes, Colorado Rockies' Triple-A affiliate, are currently 45-61 overall and in ninth place. The team has won 7 out of their last 11 games, with each win featuring 8 or more runs scored.
In other news, Keston Hiura, the current Isotopes' first baseman, was named the PCL Player of the Week for July 28-August 3. OF Braiden Ward has also been impressing, with 14 stolen bases in 16 Triple-A games, ranking 19th in the PCL.
The Isotopes' opponent, the Round Rock Express, are 48-57 overall and in seventh place. The Express will face the Isotopes in a doubleheader on Wednesday, with gates opening at 3 p.m. for two seven-inning games.
