Dodging a traditional approach, a Kobe Bryant mural, notable for its prominence, underwent modification to incorporate a Los Angeles Dodgers theme. Here's the rationale behind this alteration.

In a creative twist, a larger-than-life mural of the late Kobe Bryant, wearing a Dodgers basketball jersey instead of his iconic Lakers uniform, is being painted on the side of a future Eat Fantastic restaurant in Redondo Beach.

The mural, which celebrates the Dodgers' anticipated 2024 World Series win, also features key figures from the team's title run, including Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Shohei Ohtani, along with Ice Cube, who is shown riding in a classic Dodger blue convertible, similar to his appearance before Game 3 of the World Series.

The alteration of Kobe's jersey from a Lakers jersey to a Dodgers jersey was a deliberate choice made by artist Gustavo Zermeño Jr., aimed at integrating Kobe into a Dodgers-themed mural. The owner of the building, Efthemios Tsiboukas, requested this twist to honor the Dodgers while still paying tribute to Kobe's legacy.

This unique fusion of Los Angeles sports history was conceived by Zermeño and Tsiboukas. The mural, which is expected to be completed next week, ahead of Bryant's August 23 birthday, has already garnered mixed reactions, with some people commenting that it looks like a Clipper jersey.

The North Hollywood mural, which features Hernández in a Dodgers jersey instead of the Lakers one, has also sparked conversation and raised awareness about Kobe Bryant's legacy. This mural was inspired by recent statements made by Kiké Hernández in support of L.A.-area immigrants.

Approximately 70% of the online discussion about the Bryant mural has been positive, while 30% has been critical. However, Zermeño does not mind the discourse over his artwork, as it has sparked conversation and allowed people to learn more about the creation of the mural.

The original idea was to paint Bryant wearing a Dodgers baseball jersey, but the final version features him wearing a Dodgers basketball jersey instead. The mural started on August 7 and is a part of a sprawling tribute to the Dodgers' 2024 World Series championship.

It is worth noting that Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash four years ago, also taking the life of his daughter Gianna and seven others. His image, captured in the iconic roar during a playoff win over the Denver Nuggets on April 23, 2008, continues to be a symbol of strength and resilience for many.
