Dodgers manager Dave Roberts discusses the reasoning behind not using Shohei Ohtani in a decisive loss against the Phillies.

In a closely contested game, the Los Angeles Dodgers found themselves on the wrong end of a 9-6 score against the Philadelphia Phillies. Despite a stellar performance from their MVP-calibre player, Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers' bullpen struggled, ultimately leading to their defeat.

Ohtani, who is also a crucial hitter for the Dodgers, started the game on the mound. He pitched five no-hit innings, striking out five batters, before being pulled by manager Dave Roberts. The decision to remove Ohtani from the game was made with a plan to limit his pitching to five innings or less, as the Dodgers are being cautious with their best hitter's arm.

In the eighth inning, Ohtani stepped up to the plate and hit a home run to tie the game. However, the Dodgers' bullpen couldn't hold onto the lead, with Justin Wrobleski allowing five earned runs in the sixth inning and Blake Treinen giving up a three-run home run. The bullpen's poor performance proved costly, as the Phillies went on to score four runs in the eighth and ninth innings.

Roberts explained his decision to pull Ohtani early, stating that he would not go back out for more than five innings. He did not make a public statement regarding a possible longer pitching stint for Ohtani in the future.

Despite the loss, Ohtani's performance at the plate was a highlight for the Dodgers. As of play on Tuesday, Ohtani had an ERA of 3.75 in 12 starts (36.0 innings). His ability to both hit and pitch at a high level makes him a valuable asset to the team.

The Dodgers will look to bounce back from this loss in their next game. With Ohtani's continued strong play, they will certainly be a formidable opponent for any team they face.
