"Documents the transformative journey of a musician seizing his identity": Upcoming Bootleg Series reveals Bob Dylan's formative years

Get ready, music enthusiasts! Bob Dylan's latest addition to his Bootleg Series is here, and it's a treat for fans of the legendary singer-songwriter. Titled Bootleg Series Volume 18: Through The Open Window, 1956-1963, this collection promises to take us on a journey through Dylan's early years as a singer-songwriter in the folk scene of New York's Greenwich Village.

The release, scheduled for October 31, will be available in various formats: an eight-CD box set, two CDs, or 4LPs. The eight-disc version, in particular, is a treasure trove, containing a whopping 139 tracks, 48 of which are previously unreleased performances.

Author and historian Sean Wilentz, who has contributed to numerous Dylan projects in the past, wrote the liner notes for Bootleg Series Volume 18. In his essay, spanning 125 pages, Wilentz describes the collection as a "fragment" of that time and place, but also as a "living connection between the past and the present".

The collection aims to collapse time and space, not as a nostalgic reverie, but as a link between the old and the new. It showcases Dylan's transformation into an artist, with multiple artistic selves emerging during this period.

One of the highlights of the collection is a complete recording of Dylan's show at Carnegie Hall in October 1963, which is included in the eight-disc version. The compilation also includes rare and unheard home recordings, studio outtakes, and live renditions.

To give you a taste of what's to come, a preview song from Bootleg Series Volume 18 titled Rocks And Gravel (Solid Road) is available for listening.

So, mark your calendars for October 31, and get ready to immerse yourself in the early years of Bob Dylan's musical journey with Bootleg Series Volume 18. It's an opportunity to relive the past while connecting with the present, all through the music of a legend.
