The picturesque town of Schönsee, Bavaria, is home to the Winter Sports Club (WSV) Schönsee, a local organisation that has been promoting winter sports for five decades. The club, which boasts the support of all twelve municipalities, is currently in the midst of an exciting EU project application.

Recently, the club has been in the spotlight, with several notable events taking place. Mayor Birgit Hoecherl underscored the significance of the EU project, while Hans Eibauer, a long-serving chairman of the WSV, was honoured with a golden and diamond-encrusted merit badge by the club's members and supporters. Henry Dahms, another distinguished member, was also appointed honorary member for his diverse contributions.

However, the past year has been challenging for the WSV due to a lack of snow, affecting sporting activities and the morale among members. This predicament led the club to organise ski courses at Fahrenberg and move the Anton Floettl Memorial Cup cross-country skiing competition to artificially snowed-in trails at the SCMK Hirschau. Regrettably, Henry Dahms was unable to personally receive his honour due to illness.

The lack of snow also resulted in the cancellation or reduction of youth training, ski courses, and recreational sports, a situation that the club is eager to address. The WSV has expressed its wishes for an updated bilingual trail map, a discussion about the accommodation of the snow groomer directly in the cross-country skiing center, and regulations for the WSV ski hut as a youth meeting place.

Looking ahead, the WSV is optimistic about the future. The city and the VG consider the Nordic Sport Centre the only winter sports facility of supra-regional importance in the Schönseer Land. The municipality of Stadlern and the municipalities of the "Brückenland Bayern Böhmen" are planning to include the revival of the Reichenstein ski center in an EU project.

The WSV's board and active members have been commended for their voluntary work in various areas. The club also has long-standing supporters for its racing events, including the bike station Oberviechtach and the company Irlbacher Blickpunkt Glas.

As the WSV celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2015, it continues to strive for the promotion of winter sports in Schönsee and the surrounding area. For comprehensive and accurate information about the club, including its history, notable members, achievements, and future plans, it is best to consult the official website or social media pages of WSV Schönsee, local news outlets, regional sports associations, or by contacting the club directly.

In the effort to revitalize winter sports and boost club morale, the WSV Schönsee is planning to tackle the issue of insufficient snow by upgrading the bilingual trail map and fostering discussions about housing the snow groomer near the cross-country skiing center. Moreover, during their free time, some members of the WSV, such as Henry Dahms, have been actively involved in sports, particularly football, despite the challenges they have faced.
