Title: Ter Stegen's Surgery and Recovery: A Two-Month Absence from the Field
It seems the popular German international goalkeeper, Marc-André ter Stegen, might be sidelined for approximately two months following a surgical procedure.
During an interview with Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, Amélie Léglise hinted at the usual recovery period following this type of operation. Leon Deutschländer, a sports journalist, reported that Léglise wasn't specifically referring to ter Stegen but rather operations of that nature.
Barcelona announced that their German keeper, ter Stegen, had coped well with the surgery. However, his return would depend on further developments.
The veteran goalkeeper had been dealing with back problems and consequently missed the DFB team's test matches against Turkey (2:3) and Austria (0:2). Ter Stegen was a consistent presence in the national team, featuring in eight of nine international matches until his withdrawal in November.
Fellow national team member and Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer has yet to engage with ter Stegen post-surgery. Neuer emphasized their regular communication during an interview with Prime Video.
Looking ahead to the 2024 European Championship, hosted in their home country, Neuer addressed ter Stegen's position: "We're teammates, we all yearn for the same triumph, to display an outstanding European Championship at our coliseum. Regardless of how the situation unfolds, we'll have a top-tier keeper between the posts."[1]
Enrichment Data:
- Ter Stegen's initial injury involved a complete rupture of the patellar tendon in his right knee, leaving a minimum recovery period of 8-9 months. However, his recovery is progressing quicker than anticipated, and he hopes to return to play by May 2025, possibly even participating in the final La Liga matches and the 2025 Club World Cup.[1][3][5]
As ter Stegen's return to action remains uncertain, Manuel Neuer is poised to assume the role as Germany's first choice goalkeeper for the time being. With the European Championship looming, both goalkeepers will be crucial for their teams' success.
