dm Launches Online Pharmacy to Challenge Market Leaders

German retail chain dm has entered the online pharmacy market with its new platform, dm-med. Launched just two months ago, the service already offers a wide range of health and skincare products. Company executives have described the early performance as promising, with plans to expand further based on customer demand.

Since its debut, dm-med has steadily grown its product range. Initially stocking around 2,400 pharmacy items and 1,000 skincare products, the platform now includes well-known brands like Orthomol and Schwabe. The retailer has also leveraged its existing strength in private-label goods, with 28 dm-branded product lines already available.

Pricing has been set competitively, often undercutting rivals such as Shop Apotheke on popular over-the-counter (OTC) medications. Customers can access additional discounts through the dm app, with coupons for brands like Voltaren, Vigantol, and Wick. The platform also provides pharmacy-exclusive and prescription-only products, broadening its appeal.

Kerstin Erbe, dm's managing director, has hinted at future developments, including the potential launch of the company's own OTC brands. Such a move could reshape the stock market today, given dm's strong retail footprint and customer loyalty. While no specific stock market data is available yet, the retailer is positioning itself as a serious competitor to established players like Shop Apotheke and Doc Morris.

The early success of dm-med suggests the retailer is carving out a space in the competitive online pharmacy sector. With plans to introduce its own OTC brands and a pricing strategy that challenges market leaders, dm appears set to expand its influence. The coming months will reveal whether this growth continues to meet customer expectations.
