'Divinity' will be bigger and more innovative than 'Baldur's Gate 3': "More freedom, more shenanigans"

Larian Studios has begun work on its next major RPG, Divinity, with ambitions to surpass even Baldur’s Gate 3. Development started in 2023, but no release date has been announced. The team faces high expectations after their previous success.

The new title will blend single-player and cooperative multiplayer modes. Lead designer Daniel Václav, known for his work on Divinity: Original Sin 1 & 2, has already hinted at innovations while keeping the series’ core strengths intact.

The project launched in 2023, with the studio aiming to create something larger in scale than Baldur’s Gate 3. Václav confirmed that AI tools were used in early development, a decision he defended as part of modern workflows. The team remains focused on pushing boundaries while staying true to the franchise’s identity.

Cooperative multiplayer will return, alongside a full single-player experience. The developers have stressed the need to balance innovation with the elements fans love. Pressure is high, as expectations soar after the critical and commercial triumph of their last release.

No official launch window has been set, leaving fans waiting for updates. The game’s expanded scope and multiplayer support suggest a major step forward for the series. Larian Studios continues to refine its approach, with Václav and the team guiding its direction.
