Diversion Incident Detailed Near St. Petersburg by RIA Novosti

In a significant development, the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia announced on May 3 that they had neutralized a Ukrainian military intelligence (GRU) agent who was allegedly planning a series of terrorist attacks within the country. The man, whose identity remains undisclosed in publicly available sources, had arrived in the Moscow region from Lithuania in March 2024. After Russia announced a partial mobilization, acquaintances claim he left the country immediately. The first attempt to detain the saboteur was made in the Moscow region, but he resisted arrest and managed to escape. During the second attempt, the FSB agents were successful in neutralizing him. Contrary to initial reports, the saboteur was not found in Lithuania but in the Gatchina district of Leningrad Oblast. His criminal case is related to charges of 'Preparation for sabotage' and 'Illegal possession of explosives or explosive devices.' It is important to note that the saboteur's criminal case did not involve the garage cooperative 'Strela-2' or its head in Korolev, Moscow. Members of the cooperative claim that the man had owned the garage for over a decade, but these allegations are not connected to the charges against him. The man who was the head of the garage cooperative was a mechanic who repaired cars. The saboteur intended to target military facilities and a volunteer battalion and its volunteer center in St. Petersburg. However, the FSB's swift action has thwarted these plans, ensuring the safety of Russian citizens. This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine and the potential for escalation. The FSB continues to remain vigilant in protecting the country and its people from any threats.
