District welcomes Volt with six successful wins in the local election

In a historic first, Volt Bergisch Gladbach has made its mark in the local elections, securing 6 seats in Bergisch Gladbach, Leichlingen, and the county council. This significant expansion of their presence in local bodies in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) sees Volt holding almost 80 seats statewide.

Markus Blümke, the state chairman and a newly elected county council member for Volt Bergisch Gladbach, expressed his gratitude to the voters for their trust. Despite not making a recommendation for the mayor and county commissioner positions in the runoff elections, Volt Bergisch Gladbach is committed to working in both bodies in a factual, compromising, positive, and solution-oriented manner.

Alexander Becker, Co-City Lead of Volt Bergisch Gladbach and a newly elected council member, expressed disappointment with his mayoral election result but was pleased about Volt's entry into the city and county councils. He emphasised that Volt's newly gained influence will be used to bring democrats closer together and contribute to solving problems across party lines.

In line with this commitment, Volt Bergisch Gladbach is set to hold talks with potential partners about possible cooperation. The mayoral candidates, Alexander Felsch (CDU/FDP) and Marcel Kreutz (SPD/Greens), will participate in a debate on Saturday at 12 PM at the Castle Stairs in Castle Street, Bensberg. The Bensberger Autumn Festival will take place at the same location after the debate.

The mayoral election in Bergisch Gladbach is still undecided; Alexander Felsch (CDU/FDP) and Marcel Kreutz (SPD/Greens) are nearly tied and will face a runoff election on September 28, 2025.

Changes in municipal law by the state government increased the required number of seats, preventing Volt from achieving faction status in the council and county council. Despite this setback, Volt Bergisch Gladbach remains optimistic about its future role in local politics and imagines a constructive cooperation with all candidates for the mayor and county commissioner positions.
