District sees six seats filled by Volt party members
In the heart of Bensberg, a significant political event is scheduled for this Saturday at noon. The mayoral candidates, Alexander Felsch (CDU/FDP) and Marcel Kreutz (SPD/Greens), will face off on the castle steps in Schlossstraße for a much-anticipated debate.
Following the local elections, Volt Bergisch Gladbach has made a statement, announcing that they will not be making any election recommendations for the mayoral and county commissioner runoff elections. Despite this, they have achieved a notable presence in the local bodies, securing a total of 6 seats in Bergisch Gladbach, Leichlingen, and the county council.
Regrettably, Volt could not achieve a faction status in the council and the county council, but they have significantly expanded their presence in local bodies across North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) with almost 80 seats statewide. The required number of seats has increased due to changes in municipal law decided by the state government.
Volt Bergisch Gladbach is now looking to cooperate with potential partners in both city administration and district council. Parties such as the Greens, SPD, and possibly the Left are likely candidates for such collaborations, given their frequent alignment in Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis politics. CDU and FDP cooperation is also notable in the region, but specific coalition formations involving Volt Bergisch Gladbach are not explicitly detailed in the available information.
Alexander Becker, Co-City Lead of Volt Bergisch Gladbach and newly elected council member, expressed his disappointment with his result in the mayoral election but is pleased about Volt's entry into the city council and the county council. Becker intends to work in both bodies in a factual, compromising, positive, and solution-oriented manner.
Volt thanks the voters for their trust and will now hold talks with potential partners about possible cooperations. Markus Blümke, state chairman and newly elected member of the county council, stated that Volt wants to use their newly gained influence to bring democrats closer together and contribute to solving problems across party lines.
The Bensberger Herbstfest will take place at the same location after the debate, providing a perfect opportunity for the community to come together following the political event.
