Distraught Ukrainian mother recounts the terror of her 10-year-old's death in a Russian air assault

In the war-torn town of Kramatorsk, Ukraine, a tragic event unfolded on July 22, 2023. Tymur Hryhorenko, a 10-year-old boy, lost his life in a Russian airstrike.

Tymur, a bright and caring boy, was praised by his teacher for standing up for girls in his class who were being picked on. He had a love for animals and children, and he kept two pet rats in Kyiv.

The airstrike hit a top floor apartment in Kramatorsk, leaving behind a scene of destruction. Among the remnants, children's toys were found trapped under upturned roofing felt.

Tymur's mother, Nastya, was unable to go up to the apartment to see her son's body after the bombing. She shares a video of Tymur and his father Evhen, who died in May 2023 fighting the Russians outside of Lyman, playing and laughing on a bed.

Nastya blames herself for not being in her mother's spare room alongside her son when the bomb struck. She and Tymur had argued about staying in Kramatorsk versus leaving for Kyiv.

Tymur had demanded to visit his grandmother in Kramatorsk and was just nine hours away from catching the train to Kyiv at the time of his death.

The town of Kramatorsk continues to experience air raids and bombings, adding to the heartbreak of the community. Tymur is buried in a fresh grave on a hill in Kramatorsk, and the graveyard has new holes accepting more losses.

Despite extensive searches, there is no publicly available or cited information about this incident in the accessible sources. If this is a recent or less-publicized event, it may not be reflected in the available data.

Tymur's life may have been cut short, but his memory lives on, cherished by those who knew him and remembered for his love for animals and children.
