Dive into the compelling world of "Quickies", the latest series premiering on RTL+, shining a light on the trials and tribulations of three young men in their twenties. This captivating show, born from the "Storytellers" competition, boasts a star-studded cast featuring Damian Hardung, known for his roles in "How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)" and "Maxim Hall", and talented newcomers Oskar Redfern, Samir Salim, Aysha Joy Samuel, Regina Zimmermann, and Carmen Redeker.
The narrative unfolds in the shared apartment of Marvin (Hardung), the self-proclaimed high-flier with a seemingly flawless relationship with Linda (Samuel), and his roommates Joshi (Redfern) and Hassan (Salim). However, beneath the surface, the characters grapple with intense performance anxiety, dwelling on insecurities, and pondering the very essence of modern masculinity.
Marvin, the perfect partner and performer, struggles internally with feelings of inadequacy. Joshi, surrounded by warm support from his mother Ophelia (Zimmermann), appears carefree, but his life lacks the security of a committed relationship. Hassan, with his chance at a relationship with punk singer Lotte (Redeker), wreaks havoc due to his self-doubts.
Through their shared turbulent journeys, the viewers will accompany these three fundamental character archetypes as they embark on a quest for self-discovery and reckon with what it truly means to be a man. Yves Guillaume and Jonathan Westphal, the creatives behind the series, may draw from their own experiences as they tackle themes of masculinity in five 20-minute episodes.
"Quickies" beautifully balances gritty realism and humor, avoiding the pitfalls of melodrama, as the characters confront serious issues and find solace in laughter. As these young men search for themselves, their purpose in life, and at times, their own manhood, they realize the undeniable importance of mutual support and trustworthy friendships that go beyond the confines of parties and drinking.
This heartfelt series marks the culmination of the third installment of RTL's "Storytellers" competition, a platform created to nurture new talent and provide exciting stories tailored to a young audience. The competition is backed by the Film and Media Foundation of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The success of the "Storytellers" competition continues with the upcoming series "Dickless", submitted by Lia Zebra and Larissa Dold, students at the HFF Munich. This series is currently being produced by Warner Bros. IPTV Germany for RTL+.
All five episodes of "Quickies" are now available to stream on RTL+.
