Dissenters Demand Climate Action with Planned Protest

Bergisch Gladbach, Germany is gearing up for a series of events and elections that highlight the town's commitment to climate and sustainability.

On Saturday, 12th of September, a debate featuring mayoral candidates Alexander Felsch (CDU/FDP) and Marcel Kreutz (SPD/Greens) will take place at the castle staircase in Bensberg's Schlossstraße. After the debate, attendees can visit the Bensberger Herbstfest at the same location.

Meanwhile, the initiative "KlimaGerecht Leben" is hosting an Open Climate Talk on Wednesday, September 17th, at 7 PM in the Gasthaus Passt. The topic for discussion is "Exit Gas, Enter Future". The event offers an open exchange and a chance to contribute suggestions and ideas for the climate strike.

On the same day, the progressive mayoral candidate, Marcel Kreutz, has been invited to present his vision for a sustainable Bergisch Gladbach at a climate demo, although the exact location and time were not specified in the available sources.

The climate strike on September 20th, organised by Fridays for Future Germany, is about global justice, redistribution, and preserving human life's foundations. The initiative "KlimaGerecht Leben" in Bergisch Gladbach is also organizing a rally under the motto "For Climate and Justice".

However, concerns have been raised about the federal government's approach to climate change. Reports suggest that the government is hindering the expansion of renewable energies and relying heavily on fossil infrastructure. Furthermore, the federal government is cutting international aid, for example, for people fleeing the global consequences of climate change.

A potentially concerning development is a CDU mayor threatening to move back into the town hall, which could potentially cancel ongoing climate protection efforts.

On a positive note, the initiative "KlimaGerecht Leben" will publish a contribution soon. Bergisch Gladbach will elect its mayor in a runoff on September 28th, providing an opportunity for the town to choose a leader who prioritises climate and sustainability.

Stay tuned for more updates on these events and the upcoming mayoral election.
