Ongoing Building Dispute: Minister Offers Assistance to Affected Family - Disputed land issue: Minister promises family backing

In the thick of a protracted legal battle, a family in Rangsdorf, situated south of vibrant Berlin, is battling to retain their house and property. Amidst this turmoil, Brandenburg's Minister of Justice, Benjamin Grimm from the SPD party, has pledged unwavering support, promising to shoulder the family's financial burdens associated with the escalating legal proceedings. Despite his candid admission that a miraculous resolution isn't feasible, Grimm insists that the hardships faced are far from over.

Moving forward, Grimm emphasized, "The fiscal strain posed by the exorbitant legal costs must not be an added burden to the family. To provide relief, we must subsidize these expenses and relentlessly pursue our course."

A blunder of colossal proportions

Back in 2010, the family managed to purchase the property at a compulsory auction and constructed their dream home on the site. However, the living dream turned sour as the original owner resurfaced to reclaim the property. In 2014, the Potsdam Regional Court, siding with the original owner, ruled in their favor. In the annals of 2023, the Higher Regional Court (OLG) decreed that the family must dismantle their beloved abode and relinquish the property. Yet, in a quantum leap of 2024, the Federal Court of Justice mandated that the plaintiff reimburse the family for the astronomical construction costs. The legal saga is back in the hands of the OLG.

In an exclusive interview with the "Berliner Zeitung," Minister Grimm conceded, "This was a blunder of epic proportions, no mincing words. Our state bears responsibility for this." Moving beyond financial aid for the family's legal expenses, he assured that a subsequent court ruling would determine whether and how extensively the state is liable for any additional losses.
