Spurned by layoff, dredger operator takes revenge on construction site
Fuming from his dismissal, a man in Middle Franconia allegedly took matters into his own hands. Using an excavator, this 49-year-old worker pulverized various pieces of construction equipment at the train station in Ipsheim, according to a police report.
The incident occurred when the man, who had been employed by a subcontractor at the station, received his pink slip one Thursday evening. He promptly barreled over to the construction site, where he unleashed a rampage, dismantling several cable boxes, concrete posts, and a signal setup across a 200-meter stretch.
A feud ensued between the man, his boss, and a foreman when they confronted the intoxicated individual. Despite the altercation, the authorities were notified and arrived at the scene to take the perpetrator into custody. A breathalyzer test confirmed his tipsy state. The damage to the construction site is estimated to be around 50,000 euros, and the police are investigating potential charges of joint destruction and drunk driving.
Upon arrival at the construction site, the man reportedly issued a threat—he would demolish more equipment if not reinstated by the company.
