Facebook Twitter Whatsapp E-Mail Print Copy Link German tennis legend Boris Becker slams Alexander Zverev's tame play after his defeat at the French Open quarterfinals.

Following Zverev's loss to Novak Djokovic, Becker was left baffled by Zverev's lenient response to Djokovic's tactical serves. Becker's astonishment was fueled by the fact that Djokovic served 35 times, leaving Becker to question Zverev's resilience and strategic thinking.

Becker, an expert commentator on Eurosport, went as far as suggesting that if placed in a similar situation, he would've responded aggressively, even to the point of delivering a devastating shot to Djokovic. Becker emphasized that he and many other players would have approached the contest differently.

Djokovic managed to lure Zverev towards the net using his serves, a strategy that left Zverev struggling to respond. Zverev found himself at a loss against the 38-year-old Serbian, admitting after the game that he was unsure of how to score a point from the baseline.

"At a certain juncture, I felt like Djokovic had an answer for everything I attempted," Zverev voiced after his latest failed Grand Slam title bid. "He performed better than me today," Zverev admitted, reflecting on the match with admiration.

Becker, however, saw it differently. He argued that, in confrontations with powerhouses like Djokovic or even the younger stars Sinner and Alcaraz, players must take charge and drive the points. "Zverev needs to step up and make things happen. This is crucial to overcoming legends and upcoming talents," Becker contended.

Becker's assessment of Zverev's French Open performance was negative. "He had to make it to the semifinals, and unfortunately, he missed that opportunity," Becker lamented.

In light of Zverev's underwhelming clay-court season, Becker believes the 28-year-old should revisit his strategies and team discussions. "Now's the time for Zverev to reassess his season and tackle the areas that require improvement," Becker advised.

Subsequent to the French Open, Zverev declined to take up tennis, instead choosing to take a break and focus on golf. His next Grand Slam tournament, Wimbledon, kicks off in three and a half weeks.
