In a historic turn of events, Krasnodar Football Club clinched their first-ever Russian Premier League (RPL) title after defeating Dynamo Moscow 3-0 at home on May 24, marking the end of a 16-year dominance by teams from Moscow and St. Petersburg in the Russian championship.
The decisive victory, which secured the title for Krasnodar, saw goals from Jhon Cordoba, Nikita Krivtsov, and Eduard Spertsyan. With this achievement, Krasnodar surpassed Zenit St. Petersburg by one point, who also won their match 3-0, but couldn't retain the title.
Sergey Galitskiy, the club's owner, was overcome with emotion after the match, struggling to find words as he gestured towards the players.
