Disney's Presence Celebrated at the Hamburg Music Festivity
The Elbphilharmonie has unveiled an enticing lineup for its 2025/2026 season, promising a diverse range of musical performances that are sure to captivate audiences.
One of the most anticipated additions to the programme is the world premiere of the musical 'Hercules', set to take the stage at the Stage Theater Neue Flora in Hamburg, Germany, in March 2024. The book for this production has been penned by Tony Award winner Robert Horn and Kwame Kwei-Armah.
Thomas Schumacher, President and Producer at Disney Theatrical Productions (DTP), has praised Hamburg as a dynamic musical city. He believes the musical market in the city is particularly vibrant, a sentiment echoed by the success of the musical 'Harry Potter' which has completed a year in Hamburg and received a positive mid-term review.
The musical 'Harry Potter' has also made a significant impact on Hamburg's cultural tourism scene, and the anticipated debut of another blockbuster musical, 'Hamilton', is expected to further boost this trend. With 'Hamilton' set to make its debut, Hamburg is poised to create musical history.
The staging of 'Hercules' in Hamburg will be overseen by Livio Beyeler, the director for the production at the Stage Theater Neue Flora. Fans of the 1997 animated film by Walt Disney Studios can look forward to hearing familiar songs such as 'I'll Make a Man Out of You' and 'Zero to Hero' in the musical.
Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw will direct 'Hercules', with choreography by Tanisha Scott. The music for the production is composed by Alan Menken and David Zippel.
The success of 'Harry Potter' in Hamburg underscores the city's interest in musicals, a fact further emphasised by the anticipated debut of 'Hamilton'. The combination of a population that values the performing arts and the performance of Stage Entertainment has made Hamburg a theater capital, according to Thomas Schumacher.
In addition to these exciting developments, the Elbkulturfonds 2024 has funded 7 different projects spanning various genres within the creative industry. These funds are a testament to Hamburg's commitment to nurturing and supporting the arts.
As the 2025/2026 season approaches, Hamburg promises to be a hub of musical excitement, offering a unique blend of old favourites and innovative new productions.
